Fonts For The Logo

After getting the shape right I wanted to explore through fonts a bit more to see which one is suitable for the icon. since Aimee is a professional and a business woman, the fonts have to reflect her personality.

I have explore through few fonts below.

Before my client was really interest in the italic type of fonts but i do not believe that it will work well for her business name, as she’s a professional and a business woman the font need to be easy to read and recognise, i.e San serif but not the bold type but the thinner own to show that her business is running by a female and to matches with the logo image.

Experiment Logos On Harsh Background

After accomplishing the logos that I feel will work, I then decided to put them on a stronger background to test wither if they can work or not, and the reason for this is because all logo need to be flexible and need to go on any background wither if it’s metal, wood, silk or even glass. having a logo that will go on any background is a successful logo which is what I wanted to have for Aimee.

As you can see I’ve break down the shape and altered it in a way to make it seem more simpler and I ended up deciding to create the shape to be an “a” while still retaining the image of her playing the bohdran. and i have also reposition the shock wave to be on the other side of the beater so that people don’t mistaking that she’s singing.

Design Base On Users Feedback

Based on the users feedback I have decided to lower the bodhran to be below her chin where it create the shape of her playing bohdran, instead of confuse people of thinking that she’s singing. I think it could work but the shape look a little funny to me. and it doesn’t seem to be very unique in term of design and the usage of space.

User Experimentation On Logo

I have chose this logo and present it to the user with a question ( What do this icon/logo look like?).

I have choosen a wide audience from middle age to teenager and most of their feedback are:
That the logo look like a beautiful woman playing some kind of instrument, some say it’s a microphone and some say she’s hitting on something and sending a sound wave ( I think because these users never seen a bodhran before) but the audience that know about the bodhran was able to spot that she’s playing the  Irish drum.

Other feedback is that they says that the person in the logo look like an Asian woman due to the black hair but it’s a very little percentage.
Most of them were confuse about the crescent shape on the logo (the bodhran ) and I truly understand that it confuse to wither if that is a moon or a drum.

After asking for their feedback I then show them the instrument and they were surprising see it straight away and make more sense to them.

And some suggest that lower the bodhran to be below her face where it closer to her neck. these ideas can be easily archive but then the logo will lose it uniqueness.

I will altered the shape and change few features around to see what it’s look like.

More details on logo

After getting the face’s right I’ve decided on adding in the hair and a body so that the logo may seem more feminine, you can see the result on the above picture.

I have also reposition the beater below her chin so that she may seem like playing the drum instead of a flute.

I believe the user can still recognise the logo even if it at a long distant because of how distinct the shape is.

 

Details

 

During the feedback session i was told that the shape itself does not look like a girl and the eyes is too eastern looking, and that she doesn’t seem like she’s playing the bohdran but more of a flute.

So i have decide to work on the details of the shape and bring out those feature. I’ve reworked the vector face to be more curvy and more feminine and also i add a bone at the end of the beater with a shock wave at the end of it to indicate that she’s hitting the drum.

also the eye have also change to be more feminine and less western looking.

Session feedback

Today I got a positive feedback from the panel. They liked the logos that I have presented and the graphic but they can’t identify wither it’s a woman or a man inside the logo or if she’s playing the bodhran or tin whistle. So what I have to do is to design a few more variation base on the logos that they liked and that I should ask random people about it to see if they can identify what’s happening within the logo, can they recognise it,  is it a woman?  and what do she look like she’s doing?  I will design and experiment the logo around,  until I can get the users to says yes!  It’s a woman and she’s playing a drum. Then afterward I can send the logo onto my client for further feedback.

Deeper Experimentation

I though i was so sure about the logo with everything included so I decided to brought the sketch into illustrator so that i may experiment the logo in a different way and hopefully to find a better solution to this logo by using colours. and it turn out to be too much details and complicated for the viewer to look at, the i decided to simplified it down a bit by using the path finder tools which let me to minus the front of delete what’s behind.

After playing around with it for a while and experiment with different shape which took me sometime then i come up with this shape where using the negative space to form aimee face. and i couldn’t be more happier than to have made something like this, this shape is merely just a prototype and it is no where to the completing phase. at first i just want her hair to float through the bohdran and a crescent line going through to create the illusion shape of the world. so that it still tied down to that she’s a world champion.

After playing around a bit more I decided to add in a hand so that it may appear that she’s playing the bohdran instead of her hair waving around. And i also increase the crescent shape into a larger round shape to create the shape of the bohdran and the illusion of the world.
I think it looks simply and clean to look at, it still retain the professional look, the personal look and the emotional look, now it had the uniqueness and creative approach to it. and i think it’s also inspirational because she is inside her own logo, because she have the fame and reignition for that.

 

More Variations

 

After experince with so many different type of ideas and research I’ve decided to put all of the idea together to form something rather spectacular with everything that i want the world to view her as. A medals, the world the face and the bodhran. So i put all of these together to form a unique logo that represent everything that she have accomplished today.

On the logo she’s playing on top of the world(the world map) in a round shape of a bohdran and around the bohdran is the texture of the metals award which represent that she wont the world championship. a world class person

This another variation of her on top of the world to show how accomplishment and to show how great of a person she is.
